What are zentangles?

Zentangles are complicated and intricate patterns that are incredibly easy to draw. I've included some examples I found on the internet and some of my own.

If you want to learn more about zentangles, I found this interesting website to read more about the history of zentangles and how to make zentangles: Zentangle.com

However, our starting place will be to make a simple drawing of either a person or animals.

Drawing Videos

So the first step that we are going to take in making our zentangle drawing is to be able to draw a manga style person or animal.  Below I have embedded a number of videos to help you create a outline or contour drawing for your zentangle.

Hopefully, you have enough video references here to create a line drawing that is a contour drawing or an outline of image for you zentangle.

Zentangling

Hopefully, the videos by Mark Crilley were helpful to you to draw a manga person or animal.  You will need to make sure that you have a good contour or outline drawing done before you zentangle it.
Below is a picture that I am working on and is in mid-zentangle.
As you can see, the hair of the girl is what I am zentangling.  The different wide strands of her hair will be filled in with zentangle patterns.

There are so many patterns that you can find on the internet.  I found this quick and simple video that shows a number of different zentangles.

However, the best thing I found for zentangles is too look at various examples and copy them.  Here are some samplers that I look at for zentangle ideas:
